One of the most common questions I am asked by prospective piano students is what is the difference and benefits of classical piano lessons style front piano chord. The following describes my general response to them and hope that the answer and address all your questions on this topic.

If you consider trying to get the best of both worlds, a piano student will do well through the development of both classical chops (classical techniques and technology) and also pop and style piano chords that are in the pop and rock playing. It's very interesting to see what happens for pianists who only have competence in only one of these areas – Classical pianist who can play only the notes written by and at the other end of the spectrum, pop pianists can only play by ear or chord charts. Ideally, the classical player really should get a taste of pop pop style method and the player must become expert in reading the classic style, at least the intermediate level.

With my students and prospective students, I always try to get to do both things, reading, at least at intermediate level and also get good control on how to play songs for piano by chord charts. I wish that someone should be a concert pianist, usually has to go a specialist in that area and an excellent opportunity that never played in chord charts, but strict reading of the note by note instead. Fans pop piano can leave with a handful of lessons with a classical style, but I always say the best you can read that will help your pop playing so well. I hope the players of great pop, like Billy Joel, Elton John, Bruce Hornsby, Keith Emerson, everyone can do everything – play chord charts and note by note, when necessary. Classical chops help their technique to play rock, pop, jazz and blues and gospel songs.

The way I really learned was the emergent approach first, chord charts, etc and then followed by learning that reading classic style. I call the method of "backward approach" but the cool thing about learning this way is that you learn the method of the string faster than the classic and not end up quitting as often happens to students of classical piano with the result end of not learning anything really. So if you do the reading and chords at the same time, at least start the "easy way" and learn the chords and diagrams. The following are now in a good place to start reading. For 99% of students, reading is much harder than the chords so my advice is follow the easy path and then branch out from there with reading. You'll be glad you did!

Why is the character of Catherine Zeta-Jones says, "I rouge my knees and roll my stockings down"? Why would anyone rouge your knees? Why painted knees look great if it would it look like your skin your knees? lol

In the 1920s, when the film takes place, it was considered very daring and promiscuous woman to show her knees and bare legs. So I guess that says it is going to rouge your knees that highlight even more without her stockings. The women then just put a little, but the extra red on the knees makes the look much more daring, because the knees are more stressed!
