Car manufacturers in recent years have become more environmentally friendly than they were before. This is due the growing awareness in the global community that engages all sectors to contribute to environmental protection. Therefore cars own have been developed to reduce the damage they have caused to the environment.
Besides the development of these so-called green cars, car companies like Nissan Motor Company are seeking other ways to help the environment. In the case of car manufacturer Japanese, they created the Nissan Green Program 2010, which comprises the steps they will take to help the environment. That program provides production of fuel efficient cars, as a three-liter car or a car that can run for only one hundred kilometers on three liters of gasoline. Outside these measures then, the program also includes the recycling of used cars.
Recently, the third largest Japanese car manufacturer disclosed information to the public of their progress in the recycling of vehicles. Although the Nissan Green Program sets targets to achieve by the year 2010, the company announced that they have already met one of their goals from the year 2007. This is in the recycling of used cars. The effort Recycling exercised by Nissan through the Japan Automobile Recycling Law which was promulgated on 1 January 2005. The report released by Nissan is focused on three various aspects of recycling vehicles. These three aspects are in the recycling of new recommendations or auto shredder residue; airbag components Related; fluorocarbons.
In the Nissan Green Program 2010, it is the corporate goal to recycle 95 per cent of vehicles used by 2010. The company is ahead of the law in Japan that will enforce the 85 percent recovery rate of used cars in terms of recycling by the year 2015. This shows how society is concerned about the state of the environment. For the past year, Nissan reported that they recycled 95,240.3 tons of 128,827.9 tons of recovered ASR. The amount of ASR is the product of shredding 635,440 vehicles. The figures show a recovery rate of 73.9 percent which is higher than the 70 percent required by law. In fact, this means that the company already complies with government standards nine years before it is applied.
Meanwhile, the recovery rate of recycling effective that Nissan is reported at 95.2 percent. It is a little higher than the 95 percent they have to accomplish by the year 2010. Four years before the deadline, Nissan has already achieved one of their goals and it is a matter of refining the technology they use to put the effective recycling recovery rates at higher levels. This means that the shredder residue automotive components Nissan as the wings, bonnet, door panels and other metal and plastic are used by Nissan on the new cars that eliminates the need exhausting natural resources to create new components. Outside of these auto parts shredded, ASR also contains substances potentially harmful, such as lead, cadmium and PCBs, or polychlorinated biphenyls. The recovery, handling and recycling potential of these substances is of utmost importance protect the environment.
In terms of recycling related components airbag, Nissan said they received 439,526 airbag components Related to 229,048 vehicles. The recovery of these components involves the use of life vehicles or end of life process of recovery vehicles and the deployment of edge. The company said that the recycling rate of airbag related components reached a peak of 94.3 percent. This means that they have far exceeded the 85 percent they put into the Nissan Green Program 2010.
In taking care of fluorocarbons, which are generally present air conditioning unit on their vehicle is involved, Nissan said they have collected 160,200 kilograms of fluorocarbon to 507,037 vehicles. They are then treated properly to ensure it will not harm the environment.
All these efforts of recycling and recovery Nissan costs ¥ 5,523,193,204. While this may seem like a big loss for the company, it is even lower than the income generated by Nissan ¥ 5,642,113,359 reported. This means that the company is left with a net surplus of ¥ 118,920,115.
With the current achievements by the company automobile, they have already exceeded the standards set by the government with time to spare. The company said they will continue their Advanced recycling to achieve 100 percent recycling. This means that 100 percent recovery of the ASR, Airbag driver and related components and fluorocarbons are used in new products. The Japanese carmaker also announced they are developing new technologies that allow them to use recycled materials from ELV to new vehicles. The company also aims to to zero over a burial option in Japan. The company is also looking for ways to develop engineering controls to make vehicles easier to disassemble, making it easier to recycle. This should be done in a way that the vehicle remains safe for everyday driving and mostly safe from car thieves who prey on all cars by stripping components.
With increasing The popularity of green cars like gasoline-hybrid plug-in fuel cell vehicles and fully electric, and fuel, Nissan will develop technologies to recycle these types of vehicles efficiently and effectively.
