Perhaps more than any other guitarist ever, you are intimately linked to the Gibson SG? What was the evolution you have given to this particular instrument?
Angus:
I started playing on banjos and re-strung with six strings. [But] an acoustic guitar, a Bang Up Little old ten-dollar job, that was probably the first thing I started play on. Me Brother Malcolm was a Hofner after one of my other brothers and he got a Gretsch and passed the Hofner on for me after much squabbling.
It was semi-acoustic and had all been packed with cotton. But I never used to really take something as serious I just used to fool with. When I was about 14 when I really started playing seriously. I got an amplifier about sixty dollars, which serves to distort the whole time. He was a Phi-Sonic. After that I went out and got a Gibson SG I played until it rots the wood so the sweat and water went down. The neck all twisted. I bought it second hand, it was a 67. It was a real thin neck, really slim, like a custom neck. It was dark brown. After about a year, you lose about half of the power in the pickups if you either have them re-wired or put new in. Just ordinary Gibsons.
Steven:
Fit these instruments Elders although the tremolo arm attached?
Angus:
They did, but I took it off. I used to joke with them, but you start to look like Hank Marvin.
Steven:
And why did you stay true to the Gibson SG, for the rest of your career?
Angus:
It was light [weight-wise]. I tried others, fenders, but you've really got to do a number on 'em. They are perfect for feel, but the wiring does simply not got the balls. And I do not put these DiMarzios and all because that all sounds the same. Any other kind of Gibsons I tried like the Les Paul was too heavy. Hip displacement.
When I started playing with the SG there was nothing to think. I do not know how it happened but I think I had a lot slender neck. Someone told me Once they [Gibson] make two sized necks, one was 1 ½ and one was 1 ¼ and this was like 1 ¼ inch thin all the way up. Even now, I always look around and I still have not found one, I have been a hundred stores guitar and I found the same guitar [model], but with different necks.
Steven:
Have you ever experience the Gibson SG when they were called Les Paul [graphic named Cream Eric Clapton, guitar at the time was probably the most famous representative of this model]?
Angus:
Yeah, I had a very old I bought a 1962. But it was a very fat neck, it is good to play, but it was heavier than all others. That's why I stopped using it. And when you run a lot, it weighs.

On stage, I have four batteries being, all connected with dispatchers. 100-Watt Battery … it is good for your eardrums. I use a lot of real size, I convert this place, I turn the high and low for about half and middle, the same thing. I only use no presence. If I do not think it is high enough off, I will kick up the presence.
With Marshalls, If you use a little just volume, if you whack the treble and bass at half, where they work. We give them the plant is what we do. We go there and test them and laugh with amps and tell them what they want and they doctor up. Currently, they are all back to the old style of Marshalls, they are very clean. They lack these chefs or preamp settings.
Steven:
You have entered the era of modern electronics in your use of a wireless system.
Angus:
Yeah, I'm using the Schaffer-Vega. I've used since '77. On the receiver as you switch screen you can increase the signal in the transmitter that you have obtained the same kind of thing. You can really make a hell of a guitar with 'em. I used the remote in the studio and it worked really well. I do not think I ever had a wah-wah or a fuzz box. It's just guitar and amp and if I need something, if someone says it want a different approach to sound, then I will look with the guitar.
